Professional speedometer repair from Austria
We carry out professional speedometer repairs in Austria. Our focus is on a fast and effective repair. Generally, a speedometer is also called an instrument cluster or instrument cluster and is found in every car, truck and agricultural vehicle. The speedometer is located in the exact centre of the vehicle or behind the steering wheel. For historical information on the speedometer, we can refer to the Wikipedia article Speedometer recommend. Distinctions in speedometer repairs
When repairing a speedometer, a distinction is made between analogue and digital displays. In the middle is the on-board computer or the driver information display, which is a good example of your digital display. Consequently, you will find the individual components with a more detailed description.
Analogue display repair
Analogue displays are also described as "pointer displays". Displays such as the speedometer (speed indicator), rev counter (trip counter), fuel gauge and coolant temperature gauge can be displayed in analogue form. These are driven by servo motors in the speedometer. On very old vehicles, a speedometer cable was used for the speed indicator. When repairing analogue displays, the servomotors or the control unit are replaced, among other things. When repairing the speedometer of old vehicles, new gear wheels are usually required.
Driver Information Display (FIS)
In many models, the speedometer contains the on-board computer or the FIS, also called the driver information display. This display shows, for example, the range, daily kilometres, fuel consumption and sometimes also the fuel gauge. The display may then show the oil level, coolant level or "Refill windscreen washer fluid", for example. Some speedometers also have small displays. These are used, for example, for the time, temperature, kilometre reading or similar.
Signal transmitter repair
The speedometer unit also has a signal transmitter hidden on the circuit board. The signal transmitter is a loudspeaker that emits a warning acoustic signal when important information is received. This means that the speedometer makes a beeping sound as soon as, for example, a car door is open while driving, the light is still on when the engine is switched off, the handbrake is still on while driving or the seat belt is not fastened. Of course, the acoustic noise in the instrument cluster also comes from the signal transmitter when the indicator is activated or various indicator lamps light up. When repairing the signal transmitter, care must be taken to install a signal transmitter with exactly the right specifications, otherwise the speedometer may be damaged.
Hour meter and odometer repair
Construction machines and agricultural machines do not have a KM counter but an operating hours counter. The hour counter measures the time the vehicle is in operation. The hour counter can of course be displayed either analogue or digitally. It is either shown on a small display or, depending on the age of the machine, mechanically. An odometer consists of a counter. The counting pulses are added up and the distance travelled is displayed in kilometres. In the past, mechanical KM counters were installed in speedometers, but these have since been replaced by digital displays. With the professional speedometer repair we make sure that the odometer is professionally repaired.
Speedometer repairs: Typical errors
Due to continuous use and different environmental conditions, various faults can occur in the speedometer after a while. For a professional speedometer repair, an exact description of the fault is essential. This is the only way to ensure that all defective components are replaced with new ones.
Pointer failure with analogue displays
Typical faults are failure of individual or several pointers. The hands can be sporadically or permanently without function or they do not move properly. The failure may also be thermal, i.e. only when it is warm or cold.
Pixel error in the display
The display (FIS) has pixel errors or fails completely. Individual pixels are no longer legible. Due to heat or cold, the display may also show weak contrast; the display is then very difficult to read because it is too pale.
Speedometer without sound - Signal transmitter defective
There is no longer a beep sound for the seatbelt, handbrake, car door, lights, etc. The beep sound may become quieter over time or the acoustic sound may also change.
Partial and complete failure of the speedometer
The hands jump back and forth sporadically or thermally. The speedometer is completely dark and without function. In some cases, the instrument cluster can also cause the immobiliser on the vehicle to be active and various indicator lamps to light up.
Lighting repair
The backlighting of the speedometer fails partially or completely. Only the pointer illumination may be affected by the failure. The lighting can fail sporadically or permanently.
KM counter or hour counter
Mechanical hour counter or KM counter fails and no longer counts. In addition, the speed indicator may fail.
