Origin of the error
Due to a hardware fault in the ABS control unit, the VAG Group carried out a recall campaign. Consequently, a recall campaign was carried out for the affected vehicles and a software update was installed. Unfortunately, this update was not very successful. In some cases, the hardware fault reappeared shortly afterwards, i.e. within the warranty period, and the ABS control unit was replaced as a matter of goodwill. Unfortunately, not all customers were so lucky.
Which vehicles can be expected to have this fault?
These errors affect the entire VAG Group. Below you will find a few of the affected vehicles and models:
- Audi: A4, A3, TT
- VW: EOS, Golf V, Golf VI, Jetta, New Beetle, Scirocco, Tiguan, Touran (2012), Caddy (2011)
- Skoda: Fabia 6Y, Octavia 1Z, Octavia 1U, Yeti 5L, Superb 3T
- Seat: Altea 5P, Altea XL, Leon 1P
What exactly is being repaired?
For the repair we only need the control unit of the ABS unit. After the unit has been removed from the vehicle, it can be easily unscrewed or pulled off the hydraulic unit. As soon as it reaches us, the first thing we do is an input test. With our specially developed tester, we can test the control unit on the table. Afterwards, the repair is carried out, whereby the defective components on the circuit board are exchanged. Before the control unit is glued together again, the output test is carried out. Normally, the control unit is ready for collection or return shipment within 1-2 days after receipt. Normally, the repair price is € 289.00 incl. VAT.
Difference ABS unit and ABS control unit
ATE MK61 is the model designation of the control unit. As the successor to the ATE MK60 ABS system, it is installed in various mid-range vehicles from a wide range of manufacturers. The ABS unit consists of a control unit, hydraulic block and pump motor. Further information on the anti-lock braking system (ABS) can be found at Wikipedia.
ATE MK61 pump motor error
With some ATE MK61 ABS units, the pump motor also causes problems. If the fault concerns the pump motor, our procedure is as follows: We remove the block incl. motor from the control unit and control the pump motor externally at the table. After repair and final test, the ABS unit is ready for collection again. The whole process takes about 1-2 days and costs about € 219,00 incl. VAT. ABS control unit and hydraulic block ATE MK60
The predecessor, the ATE MK60, also has the error code 01130. This is also a repairable defect. At BMW, the error code is called 5DF5, C1DF5 or 24053. Depending on the tester, the error code is translated differently, including: Internal error, control unit defective or valve control failed. Pump motor faults also occur and can be repaired just like the ATE MK61.
